WINNIPEG — The provincial women’s curling championship is coming back to Winnipeg for the first time in 15 long years.

CurlManitoba announced the 2017 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be hosted by the Charleswood Curling Club and will be contested at the nearby Eric Coy Arena.

“We are pleased to have received Charleswood’s letter of intent indicating they are committed to hosting the Manitoba women’s curling championship in 2017,” said CurlManitoba executive director Craig Baker in a media release. “There are many details to work out as we finalize the hosting agreement but the first big step has been taken.”

It’ll be the first provincial women’s curling championship inside the city limits since 2002 when it was hosted at the St. James Civic Centre.

“The last Manitoba Scotties in Winnipeg was in 2002,” Baker said. “We think it is more than time to bring the event back to Winnipeg and we’re sure Winnipeg curling fans will be as excited as we are by the chance to watch these amazing female athletes so close to home.”
