KELOWNA, B.C. – A young Kelowna entrepreneur is hoping to quench the thirst of early adopters and investors.
Damjan Madjar saw his friend struggle to eat and drink following jaw surgery and thought a motorized straw would help.
The 27-year-old has patented the Drink E-Z cup, which uses a battery powered pump to draw liquid into the straw with the push of a button.
Instead of acquiring a bank loan to begin manufacturing his prototype, Madjar has turned to crowdfunding on Kickstarter, an on-line site to raise money for projects.
“We’re helping others, they’re helping us,” says Madjar of the Kickstarter campaign. “It’s kind of a trade off.”
Investors can donate as little as $5 or buy futures in the yet to be manufactured cup. For $30, you can buy a cup now for delivery later. For $7,800, you will receive 400 cups once manufacturing is complete.
Madjar believes the automated sipping cup will help everyone from surgery patients, to the elderly and athletes.
With a goal of raising $50,000 by January 22, the money needed to start production in China, the campaign has only raised $2,700 from 28 supporters.
It’s a trickle that Madjar believes will lead to a stream of business success.
