‘Twas the day before Christmas…and everyone was at the mall

MONTREAL – ‘Twas the day before Christmas when all through the house,

not a creature was stirring.

They were all at the mall where the crowds were all ‘roused.

“We are doing some good ol’ last-minute Christmas shopping,” said a shopper.

Prancing and skipping they all went ahead,

swiping their credit cards, all full of dread.

“It adds up but it’s the reason for the season,” said another shopper.

Some blaming the weather… the warmth was the Grinch.

At 16 degrees, it almost stole Christmas, but just by an inch.

“There was no snow, so it seems to me you know, Christmas is in two months,” exclaimed a shopper.

For others delay is a strategy, there’s no regret here

for what they found made them so happy, full of holiday cheer.

“No regret at all,” said another downtown shopper. “Because I realize there’s some very, very good deals.”

“They have the best sales,” said someone walking on Sainte Catherine Street.

For others ’twas daunting, the task too immense.

So we dared ask, will these last-minute shoppers repeat their offense?

“I always regret, I always say to myself: okay, guilty conscience! Next year is going to be different,” said a woman downtown “but then again, hey… we do it again!

“Probably, I should buy gifts for next year, so that will be my plan.”

At the end of the day, shoppers were all so fatigued,

some even asking for unconventional deeds.

“It’s just exhausting, all this holiday shopping,” said a duo holding a sign asking for a piggy back ride.

“Our backs are getting heavy and we just need a ride to the next store.”

And others just trusting the magic of Christmas,

will take them right home, away from this impasse.

However you choose to spend your Christmas Eve,

shopping or watching the classics – we hope it’s with glee.

Happy Holidays!
