HALIFAX – It’s a Christmas miracle! Or at least it is for the staff at Souls Harbour Rescue Mission.
After several months of construction the finishing touches were put on their new kitchen Wednesday, with just two days to spare before one of their busiest dinners of the year, Christmas dinner.

Throughout the upgrading process Souls Harbour has continued as usual, serving hundreds of meals to those who need a little help, despite some setbacks like losing hot running water earlier this week.
Les Porter, chef at the rescue mission, says the new equipment will go a long way toward helping them provide for their patrons.
“Just to have the space and not to have to run up and down the main stairs, it’s just going to make it a lot easier to prepare.”
The upgrades were made possible through the Aviva Community Fund which granted Souls Harbour $100,000 last year.
The Rescue Mission was successful in their bid this year as well and will see another $100,000 to upgrade their drop in centre in the coming months.
