WATCH: Lights go out on Clippers’ Blake Griffin during a free throw

Blake Griffin must be wondering how much “home field advantage” means these days, anyways.

That’s because for a couple of eerie moments during Thursday night’s Clippers/Bucks game at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, there was a strange moment of sudden darkness.

It happened as the Clippers star was about to attempt a free throw. Having just missed his first attempt, Griffin prepared to try again when the lights suddenly cut out.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Griffin took the shot anyway, and managed to sink the basket for a point. That was the least of the officials worries however, as the lights continued to switch off and on (and some points in between) over the course of a comical couple of seconds.

Once the lighting situation had been addressed, referees made Griffin re-take the shot he had just made. Luckily, any controversy was headed off as Griffin made his second (or rather, third) attempt.

The incident recalled the infamous power outage from Super Bowl XLVII. Luckily, this one only lasted a short while, not the 34 minutes the Super Bowl outage lingered for.

The momentary outage didn’t cause any problems for the Clippers, who rolled to a 103-90 victory over the Bucks.
