HALIFAX – Missing sailor Benoit Bilodeau was found dead Monday afternoon on a wooded trail not far from 12 Wing Shearwater where he went missing last month.

At 1:22 p.m., Halifax District RCMP were called by someone who discovered the body on Shearwater Flyer Trail, off of Howard Avenue.

Foul play is not suspected, according to a Nova Scotia RCMP press release.

Leading Seaman Bilodeau, 48, was last seen on
Nov. 21 near a bus stop in front of 12 Wing Shearwater.

The Special Investigations Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigations Division is investigating along with the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service; the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner is also involved.

“[Being] told that someone is dead is one thing, but being told that he’s just missing and you’re just waiting and waiting,” said Mireille Bergeron, Bilodeau’s sister, earlier in the month, “I think your mind is basically your worst enemy.”
