Semin cleared regular waivers earlier in the week but was not expected to be sent to the American Hockey League.

Agent Mark Gandler said via phone Wednesday that he had no immediate comment on Semin’s plans.

Semin’s contract was worth US$1.1 million for this season.

The Canadiens were Semin’s third NHL team after time with the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes.

Mutual termination of his deal could mean Semin’s NHL career is over, at least for now.
