Woman arrested after trying to get her 14-year-old daughter a baby on Craigslist

A Georgia woman is facing criminal charges after allegedly posting an ad on Craigslist, seeking a newborn baby – for her 14-year-old daughter.

“It’s simply a 14-year-old girl that wants a baby,” Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper told WXIA News in Georgia.

“And a mother, rather than guiding and helping raise her 14-year-old daughter, [that] decided to help her find a baby.”

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department began investigating 47-year-old Elaine Williams after a concerned citizen phoned them to report on her rather unusual Craigslist posting.

Titled “Home for a Newborn Baby,” the ad requested a newborn baby be dropped off inside a “baby box,” the location of which would be provided to any prospective “donor.”

The ad requested the baby arrive swaddled in a blanket, and placed alongside the child’s birth certificate, health records, and any other possessions she may have.

“A DISABLED CHILD MAY NOT be placed in the baby box,” the ad specifies.

Using the phone number provided in the ad, police were able to connect it to Williams’ address in Cumming, Georgia.

The mother and daughter apparently had full confidence their Craigslist posting would result in success.

“They were prepared for a baby,” said Sheriff Piper. “The 14-year-old had a crib, formula, diapers, [and] baby gifts.”

Her daughter is also facing charges, however her name and the nature of those charges cannot be reported due to her age.
