2 sisters killed in crash west of Edmonton ‘will be sadly missed’

EDMONTON — Two sisters were killed Monday night when the vehicle they were in collided with a semi west of Edmonton.

The Ford Focus the siblings were in tried to cross Highway 16 between Range Roads 31 and 33, just east of Wabamun Lake, when it was struck, RCMP said.

The 20-year-old driver and the 15-year-old passenger died at the scene.

The principal of Duffield School identified the sisters as Michelle and Celine Goyer.

“Michelle attended Duffield School since kindergarten and will be sadly missed,” Brian Sydora said in a letter to parents and students. “Celine also spent her entire early and middle years at Duffield School and graduated from Memorial Composite High School in Stony Plain in 2013.

“Michelle enjoyed spending time with her friends and has touched the lives of many students and staff at Duffield.”

Sydora said staff met Tuesday morning and prepared to share the sad news and offer support to students. The Parkland School Division’s Trauma Response Team is also offering support.

Duffield School is approximately 30 kilometres west of Stony Plain.

The 60-year-old driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the collision.
