Toronto ‘Grinch’ snatches wreath from woman’s front door

TORONTO  — A Toronto resident has caught a real-life Grinch on camera stealing a Christmas wreath right off her front door.

Sabrina Magyar’s home security cameras captured a woman walking up to her front door early Saturday morning, grabbing a wreath right off the front door and strolling away.

When she reached the sidewalk, the video showed the woman bend down to pick up what appears to be another wreath, which Magyar speculated was snatched from a nearby home.

“It was shock that someone would have come and taken this wreath off the door,” she told Global News. “I was really taken aback by it. And we looked at our cameras and I just couldn’t believe it.”

The theft is especially shocking because Magyar and her husband just moved to the area and are celebrating their first Christmas in their new home.

She says her street, near Yonge Street and Summerhill Avenue, sees plenty of pedestrian through traffic, but she hasn’t seen or heard of a similar incident since moving in.

Magyar says she hopes this Grinch’s heart also grows three sizes and returns her decoration.

“It would be nice for her just to return the wreath… it’s just not one of those things that should be happening at Christmas.”

However, she’s not holding out too much hope and plans to replace the wreath, while also keeping a closer eye on her remaining decorations.

Toronto police say they’re aware of the video and are investigating.

“We know the video is circulating around through social media, but until further investigation can be done, we ask viewers to also consider all possibilities, including mental impairment as well,” police said in a statement.
