Manitoba pet rescue group raising cash for 3-pawed puppy

WINNIPEG — A local pet rescue organization is pleading for donations to help a 4-month old Shepard cross who’s missing a paw.

‘Solo’ was brought in to Manitoba Underdogs Rescue this past fall, after being discovered in a northern community. Solo was found badly malnourished with an infected stump in place of one of her front paws. Solo needs leg amputation surgery, estimated at roughly $1,500.

“We aren’t sure what exactly happened to Solo,” says Jessica Hansen, Executive Director of Manitoba Underdogs Rescue. “She was found without her front paw, and a horrible infection in the wound. We assume that this poor little girl probably got her foot caught in something and instead of leaving her to die, her mom chewed off her foot. It’s horrible to think about, but whoever amputated her paw was probably trying to save her life.”

Manitoba Underdogs Rescue is asking the public for donations to help fund Solo’s surgery. Donations are now being accepted at Southglen Veterinary Hospital and on the Manitoba Underdogs Website here.
