VERNON — Mounties in Vernon warned five marijuana dispensaries about “potential ramifications” of operating against the current Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
This comes just three weeks after cease-and-desist letters were handed to operators of 10 dispensaries in Nanaimo. The letters warned businesses to close up shop within a week or the owners could face possible charges.
In a press release sent out on Wednesday, Vernon RCMP writes it is important that the local businesses are aware of the current laws surrounding marijuana.
It also says: We recognize the current complexities of ongoing court cases and political discussions surrounding the potential for future legislative changes, however, the RCMP is tasked with enforcing the laws of Canada as they exist today.
Unlike the Nanaimo police who gave dispensaries a deadline, Vernon RCMP say there are no specific deadlines given at this time.
