FREDERICTON – The head of New Brunswick’s human rights commission is calling on residents to treat refugees with compassion when they arrive.
Chairwoman Nathalie Chiasson issued a statement urging residents to show respect for Syrian refugee families coming to New Brunswick in the coming weeks.
She says they have endured hardship and will need the communities’ support as they become acclimatized in the province.
Chiasson says children, in particular, will need help settling into their new homes.
She says welcoming them and meeting their needs are humanitarian gestures.
The province has offered to resettle up to 1,500 refugees.
