A Coquitlam woman is doing what she can to make sure Syrian refugees feel welcome when they come to our province.
Selina Prevost has been transforming Bratz dolls and teddy bears into toys for Syrian children.
The dolls have had their make-up removed and are dressed in head scarves. The bears have vests with Canadian flags added to them.
Prevost says it’s her way of making the refugees, who will soon be moving into her community, feel more at home.
“I don’t know if some of the more negative feelings about them are getting to them or reaching them,” says Prevost. “But I certainly hope that if they are that when they arrive here, they are going to be people who will welcome them and say, you are welcome here, you are home now. I just want to be a part of that.”
Prevost’s goal is to have 100 of the welcome gifts made up by Christmas.
If you’d like to donate a Bratz doll or teddy bear, you can drop them off at Cape Horn Elementary School at 155 Finnigan St. or at Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart’s office on 3000 Guildford Way.
