WINNIPEG — The couple at the center of a fatal crash following a police pursuit is connected to a long list of robberies, according to Winnipeg police.
Early Monday morning 27-year-old Brandi Melissa Manningway was killed after the SUV she was driving smashed into a building on Portage Avenue. Officers had been in pursuit of her and her passenger, 30-year-old Matthew Alexander Bartlett before they crashed. The man fled the scene but was arrested not far away.

Police now believe Bartlett had been involved in four commercial robberies as well as a theft of gas. Manningway had been involved in three of them.
They include:
- November 22 – 2:30 a.m. – 1800 block of Portage Avenue
- November 22 – 5:45 a.m. – 500 block of Keenleyside Avenue
- November 22 – 11:55 p.m. – Theft of gas in the 6600 block of Roblin Boulevard
- November 23 – 12:25 a.m. – 500 block of Dale Boulevard
- November 23 – 1:15 a.m. – 1700 block of Portage Avenue
Bartlett is charged with four counts of Robbery with a weapon, four counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, theft under $5000.00 and breach of probation. He’s detained in custody.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba continues to investigate.
