HALIFAX – Two people have been charged with the alleged theft of a donation jar from a Cole Harbour convenience store in September, but they have not yet been caught by police.
On Friday, Kristi Maki, 35, and Raegan Phillips, 34, were charged with theft under $5,000; warrants of arrest for the two were also successfully obtained. RCMP said both have no fixed address.
“Numerous tips came in to the RCMP; we followed all of those leads. Unfortunately, we still were not able to locate the individuals,” said Cpl. Greg Church, media relations officer for the Nova Scotia RCMP. “The public played a huge role in this investigation.”
All police forces in the province are aware of the warrant, he added.
Video of the incident was uploaded to Facebook by the Rebecca Lambe, owner of Mom’s Country Market, and it garnered nearly 225,000 views.
Lambe was raising money for the CIBC Run for the Cure. She ended up raising $1,995 (not including donations from the stolen jar), an amount she partially credited to the attention her store received because of the theft.
