TORONTO — Police have released surveillance footage after a man was seen tying syringes to the front doors of city hall.
Police were alerted to two suspicious incidents after a man tied two capped syringes to the doors with blue ribbons on Oct. 25.
On Nov. 1, police said the same man attempted to tie two capped syringes to a barricade near the front doors of city hall, but ran away when security approached.
Mayor John Tory said Tuesday that cases like this are “balancing acts,” adding that by making them public police can “run the risk of creating a lot of upset.”
“I think this is a random incident by someone who has some issues that I hope we can help them with,” he said.
“On the other hand you want to make sure that members of council and people who work in this building and the public know that there are things that happen from time to time,” Tory said.
The man is described by police as a white, with dark hair in a “puffy” ponytail, wearing black pants with either a red stripe or red writing down the side of each leg and carrying a dark backpack.
Police released surveillance footage of the incident on Monday and are reminding the public to be vigilant when opening doors and to report suspicious activity to police.
Authorities said no injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
