HALIFAX – Paul Calnen is back in court on Thursday for the third day of his murder trial. He is charged with second-degree murder and committing an indignity to a human body in the 2013 death of Reita Jordan.

Calnen was in a relationship with Jordan at the time she was killed.

Police allege Calnen killed her and then burned her body. Her body was never found.

Calnen pleaded not guilty to the second degree murder charge, but pleaded guilty to the charge of committing an indignity.

Yesterday, the court was presented with hundreds of text messages that were deemed critical evidence in the case against Calnen.

“The text messages are important because it places their relationship into a context. We see that they were having problems and of course that can go to a motive for somebody killing someone,” said Rick Woodburn, Crown attorney.
