Update: Slew of charges laid in early morning assault on North Street

HALIFAX – A 42-year-old man is facing several charges after an assault in Halifax’s North End Wednesday morning.

The man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Staff Sgt. Greg Mason said the incident took place inside an apartment in the 6200 block of North Street.

The victim was taken to hospital with lacerations to his face. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Mason said the suspect assaulted a 54-year-old man. The men, who reside in the same building, were known to one another.

He said police believe a dispute led to the physical altercation. At the time police did not believe a weapon was involved.
