8-year-old boy goes to Winnipeg airport to meet Trudeau

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau made a pit stop on the tarmac of the James Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg Saturday night to meet one of his smallest fans.

A Liberal Party spokesperson said 8-year-old Gregory Bobby and his father James came to the Liberal rally in Winnipeg to try to catch a glimpse of the charismatic Trudeau.

Trudeau greeted a group of latecomers – which included Gregory and James – outside the rally. But the crowds were too big, and the small boy didn’t make it to the front to shake Trudeau’s hand. He was reportedly upset and started crying.

So on the spur of the moment, some volunteers decided to make Gregory’s day.

They brought him and his dad onto the media bus that travels with the campaign, and drove the pair to the airport.

That’s where Trudeau made sure to meet and take a picture with the young boy.

“We didn’t get to say hi, so give me a big high-five,” Trudeau said when the two finally met.

They commemorated the meeting with a picture before Trudeau rushed off to catch his plane.

Trudeau is in Alberta and British Columbia today, where the Liberals are hoping to shore up support in traditionally Conservative ridings.
