UPDAT (Oct.16, 2015): The precautionary boil water advisory for the district of Kitimat has now been lifted.

The district of Kitimat has issued a boil water advisory after a storm soaked the Central Coast this weekend.

The order was issued on Saturday when half-a-month’s worth of rain fell in the region in one day.

The water entering the region’s system is turbid and is currently being treated.

The district is asking people to boil water for at least two minutes before using it to cook or drink.

The district says there is nothing to suggest contamination is occurring, but residents should continue boiling their water as a precautionary measure.

It says it will not consider terminating the advisory until two samples conclude there is not a health risk. Sampling is not expected to be complete until at least the end of the week and could be longer if the rain continues.
