TORONTO – A tentative agreement has been reached at two Ontario racetracks and a casino where workers have been locked out for three weeks.
Unionized workers at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack and Sudbury Downs along with employees at Casino Brantford have been locked out since Sept. 19.
All three operations are run by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
Unifor, which represents the one-thousand workers at the three sites, said in a statement issued on Sunday that talks broke down over the terms of a new pension plan.
The union says the employees were no longer eligible for the current pension plan under an OLG modernization.
Union spokesman Bob Orr says the workers were determined to protect their retirement security and the union is optimistic a good deal has been reached.
The Unifor statement did not say when the workers would vote on the deal nor is it clear when operations at the three sites would return to normal.
