Rain and wind warnings issued as 3rd storm approaches B.C. coast

Environment Canada has issued rain and wind warnings for parts of B.C. as the the third storm approaches the coast.

This is the final disturbance in this recent series of storms.

A rainfall warning has been issued for Howe Sound and the North Coast, inland sections.

A strong southwesterly flow will continue to bring heavy rain to Howe Sound Saturday night. Additional rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 mm is possible this evening and the rain will ease later as the front moves inland.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads, with localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

A wind warning has also been issued for coastal sections of the Central Coast, Haida Gwaii and coastal sections of the North Coast.

An intense low is forecast to track west of Haida Gwaii as it moves northward. Southeast winds up to 100 km/h will develop over Haida Gwaii midday Sunday and then spread to the North Coast – Coast Sections and Central Coast – Coastal Sections in the afternoon.

Winds will diminish Sunday evening as the low moves away from the region.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
