WINNIPEG — Do you have the nicest spruce tree on the block? City hall may be looking for you.

Officials with the City of Winnipeg public works department are asking Winnipeg homeowners with large spruce trees to get in touch with them if they’re interested in donating their tree for City Hall’s annual Christmas tree display. They’ve already scoped several options out, but none of them have made the cut.

Here’s the criteria:

  • The tree needs to be in your front yard, so it’s easy for city crews to access.
  • It needs to stand 12 to 15 metres tall (roughly 40 to 50 feet)
  • The tree must be fully symmetrical with a single trunk and no brown needles.
  • There’s no financial compensation, the tree is donated. The city covers the cost of clean-up and stump removal.
