American soldier who stopped French train attack stabbed multiple times in California

U.S. Air Force Airman Spencer Stone, one of the three Americans credited with thwarting a terrorist attack in Europe, was attacked and stabbed repeatedly on Wednesday, according to CBS News.

CBS reported Thursday morning that Stone was taken to hospital after the attack and is currently in stable condition.

The Air Force is reportedly investigating the incident.

Sacramento Police said in a statement that the stabbing occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday when a fight broke out near a bar, ending with Stone being stabbed multiple times.

Stone’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening and no arrests have been made.

The stabbing doesn’t appear to be related to Stone’s actions in Europe, according to Sacramento Police, who said in a tweet Thursday they believe alcohol played a factor.

Stone was one of the three Americans who, in August, helped subdue an armed man aboard a high speed train bound for Paris.

He said in interviews following the incident that he had just woken up from a nap when he saw the gunman. One of his friends, Alek Skarlatos, 22, was sitting near him and “just hit me on the shoulder and said, ‘Let’s go,’” Stone said in an interview following the incident.
