WINNIPEG — Hundreds of Winnipeggers didn’t let Wednesday night’s rain stop them from taking part in the annual Take Back The Night march.

The protest against gender-based violence has been hitting Winnipeg streets since 1979.

However one of this year’s organizers Kristen Wiltshire says some of the same problems still exist, “The violence has not stopped in our city and we need to continue to work to support those affected by violence and work to end violence.”

The rally started at Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre on Langside Street. Marchers then proceeded down streets in the West End’s Spence neighbourhood for about half an hour before ending back at the Recreation Centre.

Wiltshire says the most encouraging part of the night was having at least two hundred people show up for the rally despite the rain and cool temperatures.
