Smoke alarms alert occupants to bathroom fire in Saskatoon home

SASKATOON – Working smoke detectors are being credited for alerting the occupants of a house to a bathroom fire Monday evening. Firefighters were called to the home at 242 Thain Cres just before 9:15 p.m. CT in Saskatoon’s Silverwood Heights neighbourhood.

Crews arrived at the split-level home to find smoke coming from the rear of the structure. The occupants had evacuated the home after being alerted by smoke detectors.

The fire was quickly put out and firefighters checked to make sure it hadn’t spread to other areas of the house.

No injuries were reported.

A fire investigator determined the cause to be an accidental electrical malfunction of a bathroom exhaust fan. Damage is pegged at $6,
