Mounties investigate shots fired at Vernon townhouse complex

VERNON – There was gunfire in the parking lot of a Vernon townhouse complex this week.

Police were called to the 1600 block of 43rd Avenue at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday where there was a confrontation between two groups of people that police believe was connected to their involvement in crime.

RCMP couldn’t find anyone who had been injured and won’t say how many shot were fired or the calibre of the gun.

However, neighbours tell Global Okanagan News they heard two shots and one person was injured.

Blood droplets were on the ground in front of one of the townhouses.

“While this was not a random act of violence it still causes us great concern as incidents like these put the general public at risk,” says Sgt. David Evans.

Several people were arrested and later released without charges being laid.

Investigators used a warrant to search one of the complex units the following day.

They’re still trying to identify the people in the second group which are believed to have arrived and left in a dark coloured vehicle.
