SAINT JOHN – A chip truck that overturned early Friday morning has caused the closure of both the west and east bound lanes of Highway 1 at the Rothesay Avenue overpass.
Saint John Police tweeted early this morning, alerting drivers of the delay, along with a photograph of a major traffic backup.
Police say the truck failed to negotiate a turn and flipped. The truck’s cab sustained significant damage, and debris can be seen strewn across the highway.
Traffic department and identification have been called to the scene. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and police say it’s too early to know if speed and/or driver inattention are contributing factors.
