VIDEO: Winnipeg Blue Bombers not pushing panic button yet

WINNIPEG — With just four wins in their first 12 games, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are running out of time to resurrect the 2015 season.

With only four days between games, they held their one and only full practice of the week. With a date looming with the first place Calgary Stampeders on Friday, it could be a recipe for disaster for a team that’s shown no signs yet that they can bounce back.

“There’s no magical cure,” Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea said. “There’s no airlift coming to you know, push us into the playoffs. This is what we got and we’re going to make it work.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The Bombers have lost five of their last 6 games, but their situation isn’t as dire as one would expect sitting just two points back of the Montreal Alouettes for the final playoff spot.

“We’ve got to find a way to get a game back and get even with Montreal,” O’Shea said. “And win some games obviously. We don’t want to limp in. But no matter what their record is at the end of the day, if we can stay ahead of Saskatchewan, B.C. and get caught back up to Montreal we’re in the playoffs.”

In two seasons under O’Shea the Bombers have just 11 wins and 19 losses. Those are the kind of numbers that can get a coach fired. But O’Shea says he’s not worried about his job security.

“I don’t think about that,” O’Shea said. “There’s a lot of other things that are more important on a daily basis to think about. If you cloud your mind with stuff that’s not important on that day, you’re going to miss an opportunity to coach.”
