Several yoga lovers did the downward dog alongside local cats in need of a home as part of the “Cats on Mats” event in Vancouver Sunday.
The event–which was hosted by Vancouver’s Stretch Yoga as well as Catfe, a new cat cafe slated to open in Vancouver this year–raised funds for the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA), a non-profit that rescues about 1,800 felines a year. The event was created to give people a chance to interact with cats that have recently been rescued.

VOKRA’s Barb Mount Paulsen says they hope the event raises awareness about the issue of cat overpopulation and homelessness.
“We hope that people gain awareness of homeless cats in the Lower Mainland,” said Mount Paulsen. “You don’t have to buy a pet. We have wonderful, wonderful cats that are up for adoption that were formerly homeless.”
