MONTREAL – Former Canadian MP Marlene Jennings presented the findings of a study into the school board election system Wednesday.

The Jennings report also stated that native English speakers coming to Quebec from outside the country should be allowed to study in an English school.
The fate of school boards in the province is uncertain, but Education Minister François Blais told reporters in Quebec City he will not force school board mergers.
He stopped short of saying his government will abolish school boards altogether, but the government’s reform will likely impact the governance side of things.

Blais spoke of providing parents with more input and control when it comes to how school boards are run.
Tuesday, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard said that while no decision has officially been made, it is looking increasingly likely that school boards will be abolished.
