WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Bisons had the lead for almost the entire game but failed to finish off the Calgary Dinos in losing their home opener 46-38 on Friday night.
The Herd led for 57 of the 60 minutes but still couldn’t take down the Dinos who are the number 2 ranked team in the nation.
“Those are the toughest ones to lose.” Bisons head coach Brian Dobie said. “They’re the best ones to win, the toughest to lose.”

Trailing by two the Dinos kicked the go ahead field goal in the final three minutes and added a late touchdown en route to the victory at Investors Group Field.
“We had the lead for, you said it, 57 minutes.” Dobie said. “That’s pretty good. We just couldn’t sustain it and hold off the monster offence that came at us at the end.”
Jamel Lyles opened the scoring with a 107 yard kick return touchdown on the opening kickoff and finished the game with 314 all purpose yards.
Mercer Timmis paved the way for Calgary with 278 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Bisons quarterback Theo Deezar threw for 364 yards with two touchdowns but also threw two interceptions.
Bisons receivers Alex Vitt and Jesse Walker both eclipsed the hundred yard mark and each scored a touchdown.
The Bisons fall to 1-1 while the Dinos improve to 2-0.
Manitoba’s next game goes next Saturday against the UBC Thunderbirds starting at 6:00pm at Investors Group Field.
