Mayor calls recently opened Shaw call centre in Winnipeg “a big deal”

Call centre employees in new brunswick tell Global News COVID-19 has made the workplace more stressful.

WINNIPEG — Winnipeg’s mayor had the chance to tour a call centre that promises to pour millions into the city’s economy.

“This is a big deal for Winnipeg,” said Brian Bowman, as he was shown the Shaw call centre on Fultz Boulevard.

Bowman was joined by Kevin Chief, the provincial minister for jobs and the economy.

More than 200 employees have already settled into the 40,000 square foot, open concept call centre.

On Friday, Shaw outlined plans for expand the 24-hour centre. A 50,000 square foot addition will begin in January.

When the entire facility is up and running 580 Canadians will be employed at the 90,000 square foot facility.
