PIERREFONDS-ROXBORO – A Pierrefonds daycare has been forced to downsize after what it is calling miscommunication issues with the government.
Ethan’s Playground opened 15 years ago as a drop-in daycare.
Since then, it has continued to expand and in 2013, owner Jennifer de Vera called the family minister, who she claimed gave her the go ahead to extend her hours.

Last January, representatives from the ministry visited the daycare and determined de Vera had too many children.
A new law forced her to apply for a subsidized daycare licence, which can take up to eight months to obtain.
De Vera told Global News she can’t afford to wait that long.
She is already down to six kids to fit the government’s requirements – down from the 20 to 28 kids she used to have.
De Vera is now looking for a new, smaller location to reduce costs and said if she can’t relocate, she might have to close the daycare before the end of the year.
