SASKATOON – There has been a happy reunion in Saskatoon. A Rottweiler who disappeared while giving birth has been returned to her owner.

The Desjarlais family had let Princess out in their yard on Saturday, not knowing she was going into labour. They discovered their pregnant Rottweiler had gone missing when they found a single newborn puppy alone in the yard.

The family believed someone took her as they said she never left the yard even if the gate was left open.

Princess, and four other puppies, were found Tuesday in the alley behind the house.

Wes Desjarlais is thankful for the community support his family has received, saying that at everyone in the neighbourhood and the police have been out looking for the mother dog and pups.

“People say the west end is not a nice place, but it is,” said Desjarlais.

“The community is really nice here. So many people came over and wanted to help.”

The puppy left behind is now getting to know its litter mates and is feeding normally. The Desjarlais’s plan to keep this pup, who has a special place in their hearts, and have named her Zeena.

The goal is to get money to have both Princess and Zeena chipped to avoid this happening again.
