BOSTON – Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman is set to make his accelerated return from knee surgery on Saturday against the New York Yankees.

Toronto manager John Gibbons made the announcement Tuesday in an interview with the MLB Network.

“Thank you to every single person who helped me along this journey. Forever grateful for all of y’all. So many emotions right now!” Stroman tweeted.

Stroman will take the place of veteran Mark Buehrle in Toronto’s rotation. Sportsnet reported that Buehrle, who had been complaining of being worn down, returned to Toronto for a cortisone shot in his left shoulder but was on track to pitch Tuesday in Atlanta

Stroman underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery in March after being injured fielding a ground ball during a bunting drill in spring training.
