FREDERICTON – New Brunswick’s premier says he wants to meet with seniors’ groups in the province to discuss the way forward for seniors’ care.

Brian Gallant and Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers say the province needs to address an aging population and rising health-care costs.

Rogers says they will meet with groups who represent and work with seniors, and present the government’s plans for senior care.

Rogers say they want to find ways to allow seniors to stay in their homes as long as possible.

She adds that more than half of the province’s long-term care budget goes towards nursing home care even though less than eight per cent of seniors go into the homes.
