WATCH: The father of the teenaged boy who was dragged to death in a “gas and dash” is outraged at the latest sentence given the man who killed his son. Julia Foy reports.
The man who went to prison for dragging a Maple Ridge gas station attendant to his death in a gas-and-dash theft 10 years ago is in trouble with the law again.
Darnell Pratt served a six year sentence for manslaughter in the death of Grant De Patie in 2005. He was 16 years old when he dragged De Patie under his car for seven-and-a-half kilometres after he tried to stop Pratt from stealing $12.30 of gas.
Pratt has now violated his parole and committed two more crimes.
He pleaded guilty last week to theft under $5,000 and obstructing a peace officer. He was credited with 11 days time served and sentenced to a day in jail, plus a year of probation.
De Patie’s father Doug was told about the new crimes by the National Parole Board and says the one-day sentence makes a mockery of the justice system.
