MONTREAL – Police are investigating after a man was assaulted in his business on Sunday afternoon in the Town of Mount-Royal.
According to police, three men approached the business on Côte-de-Liesse around noon and knocked on the door.
Witnesses say the owner told the group the store was closed.
That is when the three men allegedly barged in and beat the 51-year-old businessman before setting fire to the establishment.
The victim suffered minor wounds and smoke inhalation.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze but the merchandise in the store was heavily damaged by the smoke.
Police say a possible motive for the attack appears to be an unsettled debt.
