WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have scrapped plans to add temporary seating in the north end of Investors Group Field for the 103rd Grey Cup.
The change reduces the stadium’s capacity to 36,634 for the game down from 40,000 as originally planned. It was done to accommodate the pre-game and halftime shows which will now be performed in the north end of the stadium instead of mid-field as in the past. Extra seating in the south end will still be installed.
The last time attendance at a Grey Cup dipped below 40,000 was in 1998 when 34,157 people watched the 98th version of the game at Winnipeg Stadium. The Grey Cup has averaged an attendance of 53,436 since then.
