CALGARY- A 39-year-old man is recovering in a Calgary hospital after suffering critical, potentially life-threatening injuries after a parachuting mishap near Nordegg, Alta.

“A base jumper contacted the cliff on his way down and did not achieve full parachute deployment,” said Kananaskis Country Public Safety Section on its Facebook page.

A spokesperson for STARS said crews were called to the scene shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday. STARS said an Alpine Helicopter transported a patient off a mountain before an Ahlstrom Air helicopter took the man to the Cline River helipad. A STARS air ambulance then airlifted the man to hospital in Calgary.
