Floats dazzle at annual Whoop Up Days Parade

WATCH ABOVE: The Whoop Up Days parade was held this morning in the Lethbridge down town core. Although it rained early in the day, the weather turned around right before the parade started.

With everything from a pirate ship to the USS Enterprise, over 120 inspired floats maneuvered through the Lethbridge downtown core Tuesday morning. The annual Whoop Up Days parade was quite a sight for the hundreds who lined the streets.

“I love the parade,” said one spectator. “I try to come out every year to support Lethbridge, our city. I really like the floats and the horses and I really like everything about it. It makes me feel like a little kid.”

Whoop Up Days organizers may have had flashbacks to 2014 when weather resulted in a low turnout.  While rain pounded the Lethbridge area early Tuesday morning, Mother Nature was smiling on the parade as bright sunshine was on display for most of the 90-plus minutes.

Bridget Pastoor, the 2015 parade Ambassador and Honorary Marshall, rode on a white carriage near the front of the parade.  The former Lethbridge East MLA enjoyed everything the day had to offer.

“I really am very honored,” said Pastoor. “It’s pretty special to be chosen for that. It’s so much fun to be here.”

The parade signifies the kickoff to Whoop Up Days which runs at Exhibition Park from Tuesday to Saturday.
