UPDATED: RCMP charge Campbellton man with 2nd-degree murder

VAL-D’AMOUR, N.B. – RCMP have charged Steve Lévesque with second degree murder in the death of Denis Leblanc.

RCMP were called to break and enter at a home on August 12. A man was arrested a short time later in connection with the break and enter.

Later that same day, police were called to another home on the same road where the break and enter took place. When police arrived, they discovered the body of 48-year-old Denis Leblanc inside the home.

He had been shot.

On Monday, Lévesque appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court charged with second degree murder in the death of Leblanc.

He’s facing five additional charges in connection with the break and enter. He also faces additional charges of using a firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, wearing a disguise while committing an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and careless use of a firearm.

Lévesque has been remanded into custody. He was sent for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation and is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 15.
