Two people in hospital after crash on 37th Street, both directions closed to traffic

CALGARY – EMS were called to a head on collision involving a station wagon and SUV around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon on 37th Street, north of Highway 22x at 170th Street southwest.

Two people were taken to Foothills Hospital in serious condition, a man in his 30’s and a woman in her 60’s.

The woman was in the SUV and the man was in the station wagon.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by emergency crews and both were the lone occupants in the vehicles.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

In the meantime, 37th Street is closed in both directions.

Both vehicles had significant front-end damage and came to rest roughly 50 meters apart from each other on opposing sides of 37th street.

“For reasons we don’t know yet, it appears that the dodge magnum crossed the centre line and the two vehicles collided more or less head on,” Sgt. Joerg Gottschling from Calgary Police said.
