While Harper hit the campaign trail to talk money his former Chief of Staff was being grilled in an Ottawa court room over the questionable payout given to Senator Mike Duffy.

Night Wright gave his second day of testimony at Duffy’s fraud trial. He says he did not tell the Prime Minister of a plan that would have seen the Conservative Party foot the bill for Duffy’s questionable expenses filings. However, an email presented in court suggested otherwise.

While in Regina, Harper was forced to respond to the scandal amidst his otherwise tightly controlled election campaign.

“Mr. Wright has been crystal clear he did not say that,” Harper responded when asked by two separate reporters about Wright’s testimony.

“I was told Mr. Duffy was going to repay those expenses… that to my knowledge was what he did until I found out otherwise,” he said. “When I found out otherwise I took steps to make sure the people responsible were held accountable.”
