Hot, dry weather helping to keep most construction projects on schedule

EDMONTON – The City of Edmonton provided an update Thursday on the progress of road construction projects.

The majority of projects are on schedule, the city said. The hot and dry summer is being credited with part of the reason for the timely progress.

However, there are nine projects facing significant delays, with the most notable being the 102 Ave. bridge. The city said the contractor is trying to make up for lost time after bent girders put the project way behind schedule, but there hasn’t been a commitment on a firm completion date.

“I don’t want to speculate at this point, too many unknowns, so we’ll just let the work progress until we get a little later in the fall and then we’ll give everybody an update when our confidence level is high,” said Byron Nicholson, City of Edmonton.

The Walterdale Bridge project is also behind schedule because of a delay in the shipment of steel, and the Metro LRT Line is more than a year behind schedule. City council is going to receive an update on the project on Monday.
