Early Thursday morning, RCMP Investigators, the Emergency Response Team and Kentville Police Service executed a search warrant at an apartment building in Kentville and arrested a 53-year-old Kings County man in connection with the shooting.
He is currently being interviewed by police and remains in custody. So far, no charges have been laid.
“The suspect who was arrested this morning in Kentville was arrested at 6 a.m. or approximately 6 a.m. The police have 24 hours following the arrest to formally lay a charge,” Cpl. Church said.
RCMP won’t comment on what evidence they’ve collected at the crime scene so far, or if investigators have found a murder weapon. Cpl. Church wouldn’t say if police believe the shooting was a random act or if the suspect and victim were known to each other.
Investigators also will not disclose whether they are looking for any further suspects. “It’s too early in the investigation to speculate any further then what we have currently,” said Cpl. Church. “The investigation is still ongoing and investigators are still exploring a number of avenues.”
Neighbours who live nearby described the area as “very quiet”. They said the occupants of 23 Stage Road only moved in about two years ago and keep to themselves. It’s believed there is more than one family that occupies the property.
