Winnipeg company furnishing fairways at golf’s top courses

WINNIPEG – The Old Course at St. Andrews.

They’re some of golf’s most storied courses. Each one part of Bayco Golf’s story.

“We’re tip from tip,” said Bayco general manager Cal Surgenor. “We can supply all the golf course needs.”

Bayco is one of three golf course accessory manufacturers in the world. The Winnipeg company has been furnishing fairways for three decades. Thousands of products are chipped out of its 15,000 square foot St. James factory every year with the items landing in more than forty countries.

“I get calls from friends who are travelling internationally who say I just golfed this course in Shanghai and your ball washers are there,” said Surgenor.

Which happens to be Bayco’s signature item.

“It was the starting product thirty years ago,” said Surgenor. “In most cases, those ball washers we sent out thirty years ago are still in operation today.”

“When I’m golfing and should be watching my buddy’s tee shot, I’m looking at the ball washer to see who made it,” said Surgenor. “Of course he hits it in the bush and I didn’t help him.”

Most of Bayco’s ideas are generated from near the greens. Golf Course pros often approach the company with requests for custom products.

“When a new item comes up, it’s usually out of necessity,” said Surgenor. “That’s one of the cool things is that guys will bring us an idea and we have the opportunity to bring it to fruition.”
