Family escapes fiery highway crash uninjured north of Regina

REGINA – It’s lucky nobody was hurt when an SUV towing a camper ended up in the ditch on fire, to avoid a head on collision.

Just after 11 a.m. Friday, Southey RCMP responded to a crash on Highway 6 around 20 kilometres north of Regina.

According to officers, a Dodge Durango was towing a camper, travelling northbound, when a Pontiac Grand Am crossed over the center line while heading southbound.

It’s believed the man driving the Durango veered out of the way of the oncoming car and into the ditch which caused the SUV and camper to roll.

The driver, two women passengers, and two children were all able to get out of the Durango before it caught on fire and spread to the camper, ultimately destroying both.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The 16-year-old driver of the Pontiac was issued a ticket for driving as a learner while not being accompanied by a qualified driver.
